Vidya Vox


Vidya Vox is an Indian singer who was born in Chennai and raised in Virginia. She learnt carnatic music from D.K. Nagarajan, brother of the late D. K. Pattammal. She first started performing on YouTube with her sister Vandana on Shankar Tucker's YouTube channel. She released her first mashup cover on her YouTube page "VidyaVox" in April 2015 and has gained over 195 million views and 1.7 million subscribers since then. Her mashups have garnered attention from the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Diplo, Major Lazer, and Hrithik Roshan. She sings in a variety of languages including Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi, English, Bhojpuri and French.

Iyer was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She studied up to standard one in Shankara, Adyar. She holds a degree in psychology from George Washington University. She regularly sings in a band which is organized by Shankar Tucker. She staged her performance in various parts of the world like White House, National Centre for the Performing Arts (India), Webster Hall and her performance are staged at Festivals Des Artes in Reunion Island, INK Women, Suriname, Dubai and Meru Concert Series in Netherlands.[1] One of her most popular mashups include, "Lean On" and "Jind Mahi" for which she had a collaboration with several other musicians, including Ricky Jatt, Raashi Kulkarni, and Roginder "Violinder" Momi.[2] She released "Kuttanadan Punjayile," famous Kerala boat song, as a fusion along with an English song written by Shankar Tucker and herself which was shot in Kerala with Mohiniyattam performed by Sreenidhi and Sreedevi.Vidya's most popular mashup of "Closer" and "Kabira" featuring singer-songwriter Casey Breves garnered over 2 million views in a day and was trending in India for a few weeks. In just two weeks, the video has over 13 million views. Also Vox uploaded her first single "Be Free" on 9th Jan 2017.

She started posting Bollywood + Western pop mashups on her YouTube channel over a year ago. The songs gained popularity quickly and she has over 200 million views and over 1.9 million subscribers! Vidya's mashups have gained recognition from the likes of Diplo, Major Lazer & Hrithik Roshan, as well as publications such as Cosmopolitan, Buzzfeed, The Hindu, Deccan Chronicle and many more. She is currently working on a solo EP, with original songs and compositions.

She can't live without her headphones and the iTablaPro app. She's obsesses over well-decorated spaces. She loves warm weather, tennis and reading. She also loves to dance, eat tacos and celebrate all different types of festivals. She doesn't have any cool life mottos, she just takes life one day at a time.
